Testimonies of Healing
For the last two years I have lived a happier, healthier, and better life than I had ever known before, through the help that has come to me in the understanding of Christian Science. I turned to this Science in the hope of receiving mental and physical help, and though my healing was slow, it was sure.
Through the study of Christian Science God has been revealed to me as all-knowing Principle, and that as we endeavor to express divine Love and conform ourselves to God's law we are healed and uplifted. Christian Science has brought untold happiness to our home and shown me the source of supply.
I have been in Christian Science about two and a half years, and in that time have received so much good that I am glad to tell of it, hoping thereby to benefit some one who may be looking for the truth. For a year previous I had been very ill with an acute organic disease, which was followed by a nervous breakdown.
When questioning why I could not overcome some sickness or trouble, I have remembered these lines in Science and Health (p. 3),"Are we really grateful for the good already received? Then we shall avail ourselves of the blessings we have, and thus be fitted to receive more.
I do not know how to express fully the gratitude I feel for the healing and the spiritual benefits I have received through Christian Science. After the best medical specialists whom we could find had told me that my wife's recovery was very doubtful, and that she could only hope for relief by means of a serious surgical operation, we turned in desperation to Christian Science.
From early childhood until about four years ago I was in poor health. At that time my condition had become so serious that my family and physician had little hope of my recovery.
In June, 1906, my husband, who had been under medical care since the previous January, for an injury received at that time, was taken with fever, together with stomach and bowel trouble; but it was not until August that he consented to go to Kansas City, Mo. , to seek healing through Christian Science.
About a year ago I had an experience for which I am very grateful. My sight having left me entirely, and the pain in my eyes being very severe, my husband called in five of the best physicians in Boise, but they could offer me no relief.
For a long time I have been desirous of telling other sufferers of my healing through Christian Science. In June, 1903, I was taken down with a dreaded fever, while playing an engagement in New Jersey as musical director.
My attention having recently been called to a book, the writer of which attacks Christian Science, challenges proof of its cures, and refers to those who seek such cures as "the adult ignorant" who are in need of State supervision, I desire to tell something of my own experience with Christian Science. A little over a year ago I was a "scoffer" as regards Christian Science, but the healing of my son changed my views entirely.
