Testimonies of Healing

For years I suffered intensely with headaches, the attacks lasting two or three days of each week, and I seemed to be almost a nervous wreck. I tried many physicians, including specialists in this country and in England, but I grew worse steadily.

Between two and three years ago, I lay upon my bed helpless, my right hand, arm, shoulder, and neck being seemingly powerless. In my extremity I called in a Christian Science practitioner, and in that first treatment I was raised from the bed, healed of the disease.

In submitting this testimony for publication my object is twofold: first, as a beneficiary of Christian Science I desire to express my gratitude through its periodicals to Mrs. Eddy, author of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," whose pages have given me so much help both physically and spiritually; second, the hope is entertained that this will meet the eye of some sufferers, and be the means of inducing them to come and drink at the fount of this healing truth and have their sorrows turned to joy and their supplications to thanksgiving, not only for the healing of their bodies, but for the richness of the joy that will flood their lives, making of each duty to their fellows a votive offering on the altar of divine Love.

Although Christian Science healing came to me in Germany, I am an American, born of Puritan stock, being directly descended from William Bradford, who wrote the log of the Mayflower and became governor of the New England colony. Thirty-two years of my life were spent in Constantinople, where my husband was the Vice Consul General for the United States for fifteen years, and there I contracted a bowel complaint which clung to me for fourteen years.

Words fail when I attempt to express my gratitude to God, and to Mrs. Eddy for the wonderful truth contained in "the little book," Science and Health, which as a "Key to the Scriptures" has opened up to me that sacred volume, for I never understood the Bible before.

I HAVE now been in Christian Science for something over five years, and most of that time have been active in the church work. I came to it a broken-down man, overcome by the cares of business and the burdens of disease.

Feeling to-day as I do, with a heart filled with gratitude for the very great and wonderful truths gained through Christian Science, I wish to tell of the benefits that have come to me both physically, and spiritually. For eight years I was sorely afflicted with a chronic form of rheumatic trouble.

"What hath God wrought?" What has Christian Science done for me? After ten years of experience in trying to follow the teachings of our text-book, Science and Health, what have I to be grateful for? There is indeed so much for which I would return thanks, that I can give only a faint idea of the blessings that have come to me through the unfolding to my consciousness of the truth of Christian Science. In the first place I am sure that I would not be here to-day to write this testimony if Christian Science had not come to my rescue when it did.

In September of last year a friend handed me a copy of The Christian Science Journal, which she asked me to read; but I found its teaching so different from anything I had ever read, that I laid it aside. When my friend asked me later if I was reading the Journal, I gave some excuse, and premised I would do so.

Among the thousands who have been healed through Christian Science, I rank as one of the most thankful. I am an electrician, and almost three years ago, while on duty one evening, I came in contact with forty-four hundred volts of electricity.
