Testimonies of Healing
I feel I must not longer delay in writing to the Journal the beautiful demonstration we had of God's love and protecting care on last Christmas eve. We had decorated and lighted our tree as usual, and the room was full of guests, when suddenly my little boy (four years old) slipped and fell from the piano stool.
At midnight one Sabbath evening not long since, I was startled and awakened from an unpleasant dream. I hastily arose and going up-stairs found a member of the family in a collapsed condition.
I had a demonstration a few weeks ago that I wish to tell of, it meant so much to me. My husband has a place rented two or three miles from home, where sometimes he pastures his cows.
I do not know whether any one in the world has more reason to express gratitude for healing through Christian Science than I have. In the year 1894, I was taken very ill with chronic inflammation of the spinal cord, and suffered intensely for many weeks.
With a heart full of love and gratitude to God, and to our Leader, Rev. Mary Baker G.
About twelve years ago I first heard of Christian Science; members of my husband's family would frequently tell me about it and try to explain it to me. That the Comforter is ever-present was proved to me in the hour of need.
I shall never forget the joy I felt when the Bible and Science and Health were ordained as pastor for all Christian Science services. Perceiving the profound significance of the Lesson-Sermon as a healer, realizing, even as the explanatory note says, that it is "a sermon undivorced from truth, uncontaminated and unfettered by human hypotheses, and authorized by Christ," I began at once to use it.
I Should like to tell of a demonstration which was very convincing to me that there is but one Mind. About a year after I was healed and began the study of Christian Science it seemed best for me to take a city examination for teachers.
This testimony was accompanied by the following note. The enclosed is the testimony of a young girl in whom I am interested.
From my early childhood I was always ill. For weeks I lay in bed under the doctor's care.
