Testimonies of Healing

About two years ago I was stricken with sciatica, which almost incapacitated me. I was hardly able to walk or move without pain.

I attended an orthodox Sunday School as a child and later became a member of the church itself. However, I did not realize the blessings of a healing religion until I began to attend services in a Church of Christ, Scientist.

Mary Baker Eddy writes in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures ( p. 99 ): "The calm, strong currents of true spirituality, the manifestations of which are health, purity, and self-immolation, must deepen human experience, until the beliefs of material existence are seen to be a bald imposition, and sin, disease, and death give everlasting place to the scientific demonstration of divine Spirit and to God's spiritual, perfect man.

A testimony of my first healing through the ministrations of Christian Science was published years ago in the Christian Science Sentinel. It described my restoration to complete health in 1949 after twelve years of incapacity resulting from pulmonary tuberculosis.

I must express my gratitude for all the wonderful things that have come into our lives through the study of Christian Science. During a long life I have seen this truth bring about healings of nearly every ill that the flesh is heir to.

I consider it a great privilege to give this testimony and to express my gratitude for be Christian Science periodicals, the Dutch Edition of The Herald of Christian Science in particular. Since 1936, when I first attended the Sunday School, I have experienced many blessings and healings and have felt God's guidance.

Just eleven years ago I could consciously feel the omnipresence and omnipotence of God when I wished to change my residence from one part of my native land to another. At that period it was very difficult to carry out this plan because the political situation appeared to be extremely unfavorable.

What a great privilege and joy it is to be a Christian Scientist and to know the peace this healing religion brings when its teachings are lived and properly applied! As an Air Force family for twenty-two years, we had the wonderful experience of bringing up five children with the help of the truth and of proving times without number that this Science does heal and sustain us at all times. This testimony is given with the prayer that it may help and encourage others who are seeking healing in Christian Science. I was led into the study of Christian Science fourteen years ago and was healed of a disease of the nervous system when I had been given up by doctors as incurable.
