Testimonies of Healing

On page 570 in Science and Health , Mrs. Eddy writes: "The march of mind and of honest investigation will bring the hour when the people will chain, with fetters of some sort, the growing occultism of this period.

Just before the First World War I heard the words "Christian Science. " I became acquainted with a Christian Science practitioner, who told me about Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, and that many people had been healed just by reading it.

During the mid-1950's, I was still in the Army Reserve. In a required physical examination the physician informed me of a growth in the nasal passages, remarking that it was a matter of minor surgery to have it removed.

This testimony concerns the immediacy and power of prayer. One Sunday morning when I was busily distributing hymnals in advance of the Christian Science service in a women's prison, where I served as Second Reader, I was startled by a loud, angry exchange of words at the chapel entrance, where several prisoners and some prison officers were gathered.

"In quietness and in confidence shall be your strength" ( Isa. 30:15 ).

I first heard of Christian Science nearly fifty years ago when I was a very ill and worried woman. I had been told that I would never be well unless I underwent an operation, and the necessary arrangements had been made for me to enter hospital.

For several years I often entertained the notion that I should never have been a mother. I was frequently impatient and irritated with my two children and was confused and unsure of myself as to how to discipline.

For thirty years Christian Science has been my only physician. Through all these years I have enjoyed excellent health.

I would like to testify to the abundant life Christian Science has revealed to me in fulfillment of Jesus' statement in John 10: 10, "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. " Over fifty years ago a neighbor presented Christian Science to my mother when my sister, who was a very small child, had pneumonia.

The many blessings I have had from the testimonies of healing published in the Christian Science periodicals lead me to tell what this marvelous religion has done for me. More than twenty years ago I was afflicted with pulmonary tuberculosis considered to be hereditary, and from which my mother and several members of her family had passed on.
