Three years ago, a friend of mine invited me to attend a Sunday School class at a Christian Science branch church located near my home. Besides being warmly welcomed by everyone, I so much liked the ideas I learned about God in Sunday School that I never stopped attending.

Nowadays, many believe that God can no longer respond to humanity’s needs, as was the case many generations ago. During biblical times, manna fell from the sky to nourish a population in the desert (see Exodus, chapter 16 ), oil filled vases previously empty to save a poor widow (see II Kings 4:1-7 ), and loaves of bread multiplied to be distributed to a hungry crowd (see Mark 6:32-43 ).

“And they lived happily ever after. ” We love happy endings in books and movies.

It is often the case that many people turn to God at a time of despair, and I am no exception. I first found Christian Science in my home country of Ethiopia, during an effort to improve my English.

I recently had a very busy day, and by the end of it I felt that I had not kept my thought as spiritually uplifted as I could or should have. I had rushed through things and hardly listened for God’s direction at all along the way.

Low on money, no full-time employment, and too much time on my hands; I realized I needed to find a job that would provide enough pocket money for a training course I’d be taking in the summer. Though I’d known of my predicament for weeks, I’d neglected to put in the time to pray and find a solution.

When I read the Old Testament, I strive to grasp the “inspired Word” of the text I am reading (see Mary Baker Eddy, Manual of The Mother Church, p. 15 ).

In the last chapter of Luke, Jesus, after his resurrection, returns to his disciples, who think he is dead. Standing in front of them, he reassures them that it is he, and says,“Peace be unto you.

As a canoeing enthusiast, I’d seen many watercourses with beautiful reflections. Everything higher than the waters’ edge is mimicked on the surface.

In  Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures , the sixth tenet of Christian Science commands us “to watch, and pray for that Mind to be in us which was also in Christ Jesus; …” ( p. 497 ).
