Testimonies of Healing

When a small child I had a fall which injured the hip and resulted in disease of the joint. This was greatly aggravated by other conditions, and for more than twenty years I was a great sufferer.

Five years ago I was healed of a most severe illness by Christian Science. For about three years I suffered from complications, said to be caused by overwork at the piano and teaching music.

I have been too long in expressing, through our publications, my gratitude for the "newness of life" which has been vouchsafed to me through Christian Science. Many times I had refused so much as to see a Christian Scientist, but at last I yielded to my husband's earnest entreaty, and consented to receive one and talk about the Science.

I was afflicted with asthmatic trouble for more than forty years. The only relief to be obtained was from the use of morphine, and the physician was obliged to increase the dose constantly to have any effect.

About a year ago I was led to Christian Science through intense and continuous suffering. All my life I have been considered very delicate and nervous, and had two serious breakdowns.

I was sitting on the curbstone one day, when suddenly I became very ill; but managed to crawl, rather than walk, to a doctor's office, and after an examination he told me I was in a very serious condition and had not long to live. Having no money or friends, I was sent by ambulance to the county hospital and placed in a consumptive ward.

I am grateful every hour for the health, happiness, and peace which have come to me through Christian Science. For twelve years I was subject to intense headaches, and during the summer months severe attacks from the heat, as I had a very serious sun-stroke from which I was not expected to recover.

I Would like to tell how I was healed of an abnormal growth without treatment. At the time I made the alarming discovery, I said nothing to any one, and tried to rid myself of fear by keeping it out of my thought.

At the first Wednesday evening meeting I attended, a gentleman spoke about Christian Science as having enabled him to overcome financial difficulties. The testimonies of healing seemed ridiculous to me, but the above statement was the climax; still I was impressed with the beautiful and simple service and left the hall with a mixed feeling of doubt and hope.

It is difficult for me to give the particular reason for which I feel most grateful that the understanding of Christian Science has come into my life; whether it is for the light which it throws on the Bible, or for improvement in physical conditions, or for the aid it gives in purifying and improving the character. Nearly two and a half years ago, while living at Heidelberg, a friend from Scotland came to spend a few weeks with me in the mountains.
