Testimonies of Healing
Our Leader, speaking of Jesus' disciples says, "When they were fit to be blest, they received the blessing" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 212 ).
Having had innumerable proofs of the accuracy of Christian Science, it is almost impossible to approach the subject without being tempted to write indefinitely. Words but faintly express my gratitude to God for the illumination of the Bible that has come to me through the writings of our beloved Leader, Mary Baker G.
I do not believe I ever experienced a well day in my life until I was healed through Christian Science. I have had almost every disease that flesh is heir to, and at times was confined to my bed for weeks.
It is with deep gratitude to God, that I send my testimony. This Christ healing came to me over four years ago when I was most wonderfully restored to health, after having suffered many years from several chronic diseases.
I am truly very grateful for what Christian Science has done for me. For three long years I suffered day and night with severe pain in my back, and with cramps in my stomach.
It has been several years since I first began to understand and demonstrate the teachings of Christian Science, and each year my gratitude increases, for having found the truth about God and man, and that this truth can be proved, that it is applicable to all my needs—moral, mental, physical, and spiritual. My needs have been many, and many times I have been almost overwhelmed with error's suggestions and physical manifestations; but God's word has been all-powerful to destroy them, and has proved to me that these evils are nothing.
Once in my childhood, in a bitter moment of disappointment and sorrow, I added to my evening prayer, "Lead me, oh God, and guide me in thy path, show me the way. " From then until now, this has been my prayer, and all these years when darkness and doubt seemed to assail me on every side, this prayer would ever return to me.
In June, 1903, when in the midst of joyous preparations to attend the Annual Meeting so dear to the hearts of all Christian Scientists, a telegram was received from a dear one living in a neighboring state for some one to be sent to her at once. I was asked to take the case.
Nearly twelve years ago my attention was specially called to Christian Science by a friend, who brought Science and Health and asked me if I did not want to read it a little while that day? I did have a curiosity to find out what Christian Science is, as I had spent a good deal of time investigating other, so-called, advanced ideas as well as reading many orthodox religious books, chiefly perhaps because these books were well written rather rather than because their theories had anything satisfying in them. I was then adrift both as to religion and the philosophy of life; near to being an agnostic, dissatisfied and unhappy.
About eight years ago Christian Science was brought to me by a man's best friend on earth,—his wife. The word "Christian," I had heard all my life, and the word "Science" I was quite familiar with, but the linking of the two words together was new to me.
