Testimonies of Healing
Nearly five years ago Christian Science was suggested to me by a lady who, though not a Scientist, had known of its healing. I had been for seventeen years a sufferer from stomach trouble.
As far back as I can remember I was afflicted with neuralgia of the head, which I thought at first was caused by my teeth. I had treatment from seven dentists without receiving any benefit.
Eight years ago I was discouraged and in despair, for within three months previous two of our children had died, and the other three were ailing. Doctors and nurses came daily and numerous medicine bottles made our home resemble a hospital.
I First came to Christian Science for help in February, 1902. For some time I had been troubled with lumbago, and cramps in my legs, feet, and hands.
Returning, after four years, for a quiet little change, to this most beautiful spot in the Monticito Valley, where the sea and the mountains seem to touch, it is fitting to send out into the world, by way of the Journal, a little "Song of Gratitude. " I have already written of finding Truth here four years ago, and what this meant to a restless, lonely sense-life; but I did not speak of the healing which occurred immediately after my acceptance of Christian Science.
It is nearly four years since I was first helped by Christian Science, which, though it has made a new man of me, has not as yet enabled me to wield my pen sufficiently well to convey to others my gratitude for what it has done for me physically, mentally, and morally. I wore a truss for a double rupture for twenty years, and for fifteen years I was afflicted with nervous prostration, constipation, and dyspepsia.
One day a dear Scientist discovered this quotation carved upon my writing desk, "Look thee unto thine heart and write," and remarked, "We do not do that enough. " I caught the rebuke and hence this testimony.
Having received so much help from the Christian Science periodicals I feel that I would like to express my sincere thanks to all those who have written so many instructive and beautiful articles for them. I also wish to express my gratitude to Mrs.
I have for some time felt it a duty to give to others who may be in affliction the benefit of my experience, and tell what Christian Science has done for me. In order to make this clear it is necessary to go back a little.
The promise contained in the third verse of the fortieth chapter of Isaiah, that the crooked shall be made straight, was fulfilled in my case, for when reading our text-book, Science and Health, just six years ago this month, I was instantaneously healed of what the doctor had pronounced lateral curvature of the spine. I was just looking into Science at that time, and it was my guide and comfort, when, two months later, I left for Paris to continue my musical studies; and during the three years and a half I remained on the other side I was never incapacited from my work for a single day.
