Testimonies of Healing

As I look back over the four years that I have been in Christian Science and realize the peace and happiness which have been mine during this time, I feel that I want to express to the world my gratitude. All during my life I had been in bondage to fear, so much so that I was afraid of everybody and everything.

For many years, in fact ever since I was a schoolgirl, I had been a semi-invalid,— up and around, but always obliged to be careful and to consider my health first. As the years went by, I became gradually worse, until the doctors pronounced my illness a very serious organic trouble.

It is more than eight years since I first began reading Science and Health, and though I did not understand for some time the truth contained in this book, I continued to read, for I felt it was a beautiful religion, and that there was surely something in it for me. I had for a long time been under medical treatment for throat and lung trouble, but was not improving.

Perhaps we do not appreciate as fully as we should, our Leader and her work for the world, until we each strive to reflect the light of Truth upon the darkened sense of our world about us, and try humbly to follow her as she follows Christ; then we return to her our loving gratitude and realize a clearer sense of appreciation of what she has done for us, for Christ's sake. For about six months previous to being led into Science, I tried daily to realize the promise.

There are none, no matter how humble and obscure, who do not wield some influence over others, and often, unknowingly, over many persons. In view of this fact, it would seem to be the duty of all who have been benefited by Christian Science, to publicly acknowledge the blessings that have come to them, in such a way that others, who are still under the bondage of sin and sickness, may be influenced to turn their attention to the great truth as exemplified in Christian Science, and thereby be brought to harmony and health.

I lived for several years with a copy of Science and Health in my home, without ever opening its covers, although my parents were interested in Christian Science. During a part of this time I was in a town where a Christian Science church is located and where services are held regularly, but before taking treatment I had attended only two Christian Science services.

During the past six years the greatest peace, joy, and hope has entered my consciousness through the understanding of Christ, Truth, as revealed through our beloved Leader. I cannot express my gratitude; it is deeper than any words can convey.

I would like to state briefly my own experience as evidence that Christian Science healing is permanent. I was afflicted for sixteen years with many maladies, so much so that life was indeed a burden.
