Testimonies of Healing
At first the only thing I knew about Christian Science was that it was supposed to heal. Because I was in great pain, I went to an internist whom I knew well.
My grandmother was presented with Christian Science in the late nineteenth century. I grew up a Christian Scientist and have had many healings.
For over forty years now I have relied on Christian Science, and have been blessed with several wonderful healings: of a bone fracture in an arm in two days; of shingles, overnight; of a sprained ankle in a few hours; and of other ailments. These healings all came through study of the Bible, together with the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health.
Our church was sponsoring a public lecture on Christian Science. The chairperson of the lecture committee asked me to select citations from the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures to be read at a preparatory meeting, and I gladly did so, expecting that the chairperson would do the reading.
A healing I had when I was just out of college was a real turning point in my practice of Christian Science and taught me something about persistence in prayer. I was in my second year of a busy job as a teacher and houseparent at a boarding school.
Science and Health states, "Christ is the ideal Truth, that comes to heal sickness and sin through Christian Science, and attributes all power to God" ( p. 473 ).
After playing tennis one evening, I woke the next morning unable to raise my right arm. This surprised me because I had actively played tennis for years with practically no physical difficulties.
I was in a hotel room that was unpleasant—it was a drab room, with no color. A shade was off one window.
When I found Christian Science ten years ago, my health was in a precarious state. I suffered from high blood pressure and hemarthrosis of the knee, which prevented me from being able to go to work regularly.
A few years ago when our daughter was six, she choked on a piece of candy. She wasn't able to breathe.
