Idleness

From the July 1886 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Go therefore now and work. Exodus v. 18.

Jesus was a carpenter. Peter mended nets. All the disciples labored as they had opportunity, while engaged in teaching the people. They could not have taught the people as they did, had they not been laborers. Labor is the first great law. It is the law of growth as well as of creation. The savage begins to grow upward when he begins to labor. Labor is constructive. Death is idleness. Shall Life learn of death? Not so; but death shall be taught of Life,—the idle of the laborers.
