CHRISTIAN SCIENCE AND REVELATION

From the October 1904 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In every great movement for the uplifting of humanity, for the establishing of standards of Truth, one fact stands out pre-eminently; viz., the more united the effort, the greater the ability successfully to accomplish the desired results. Christian Scientists are awake to the fact that all evil, no matter what may be its presentations and claims, is in reality "one evil," and that one a "lie."

Jesus said, "When he [the devil, or evil] speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it." Mrs. Eddy has said in "Unity of Good," p. 20, "A lie has only one chance of successful deception,— to be accounted true." Again, we read in Science and Health, by the same author, "Therefore the only reality of sin, sickness, or death is the awful fact that unrealities seem real to human belief, until God strips off their disguise" (p. 472).

The conflict between Truth and error, between ignorance and enlightenment, between more or less pernicious theories and exact scientific knowledge, is irrepressible, between these opposites there is no possible point of agreement, no common ground whatever. For ages, mankind has been seeking a positive, exact, incontrovertible, and uncompromising statement of Truth, which when understood would enable them to cope successfully with every presentation of evil, whether sin or sickness.
