[Written for the Journal.]

INTO THE KINGDOM

From the March 1904 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Out from the shadows of seeming.
Out from the darkness of dreaming,
Out from a warring that's all in the wrong,
Into the brightness of being,
Into the sunlight of seeing;
Out from the sadness and into a song.

Out from the sickness of sorrow,
Out from the fears of to-morrow,
Out from a doubting that leads but to dread,
Into a life that will lengthen,
Into a strife that will strengthen,
Into the light where the Great Master led.

Out from a way that is weary,
Out from a day that is dreary,
Out from the humblings that followed on hate,
Into Thy path from our straying,
Into the peace of true praying,
Won by thy love we enter thy gate.
