Some months ago I was in Lexington, Ky., visiting a lady who is a Christian Scientist. One day, in looking about for something to read, I picked up a Christian Science Journal. I opened the magazine at the testimonies and there read of a lady who had been healed of a severe case of astigmatism.
Since having typhoid fever two years before, I had suffered with astigmatism, my eyes burning with fever besides having excruciating pain. Being a "book-worm," I aggravated all this by reading constantly, until my eyes were in such a condition that I could not bear the light. I had my eyes examined by one of the best oculists in the city and he said that I had completely destroyed the muscle for "focusing," and that it might take years to repair it, and then only by constantly wearing glasses.
I had worn the glasses almost two years with no perceptible change, so I decided to try Christian Science. When I returned to Cincinnati, I went at once to a practitioner and in one week's time I discarded my glasses. In three weeks more there was no pain or ache; my eyes are perfectly whole through Christian Science. When my eyes were in such a bad condition, before I knew of Christian Science, I had said to friends that I believed God was punishing me, for now the only pleasure I ever had was gone, because I could not read any more. I now know, through Christian Science, that God is all goodness and does not send affliction on His children. And now, instead of devouring every novel on the market, I am thoroughly satisfied with my Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and each day I learn more and more of this wonderful Christ-healing.
