Testimonies of Healing

From the April 1905 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Words cannot express the gratitude I feel for what Christian Science has done for me and mine; and to Mrs. Eddy, to whom we all are indebted for this great truth, I never can manifest enough love and appreciation. Last March our little girl, nine years old, caught a cold, which I treated to the best of my understanding, but the trouble developed into a very severe case of typhoid fever. I realized that I was unable to meet the trouble alone, and called for assistance from a practitioner, who made one personal call; the balance of the time the child was given absent treatment. For several days she seemed to fail very rapidly, being in almost constant stupor, and had a raging fever. However, she never lost consciousness, and was a firm little believer, having the faith that divine Love was making her well and that she would soon recover. It was simply beautiful. She became very weak, but there was not a day that she would not insist upon being dressed, and sitting up, although she could be up only five or ten minutes at a time. We feel that this case of healing was a wonderful demonstration of God's love. The healing was rapid, as she was absent from school only three weeks. After the fever had been broken and my husband's fears were allayed, her recovery was marvelously quick. The next day she was able to be up a long time, and the second day was up most of the day, and was practically well.

We know that Christian Science does heal, not only physically, but spiritually. Through the "Key to the Scriptures" which our dear Leader, the Founder of Christian Science, has given us, we get a true understanding of the truth which Jesus taught. In the beautiful interpretation of the 23rd Psalm which Mrs. Eddy has given us (Science and Health, p. 578), we find great consolation. Whenever trouble of any kind seems to come to us, "Love's staff" is there for us to lean upon. Through even my slight understanding of Christian Science, I am able every day to overcome the errors of sense. I am happy to express my love for the Church of Christ, Scientist. To my practitioner, who has been so loving and kind, I am more than grateful. My daily prayer is that I may reflect more love and let my "light so shine" as to be able to do something for some one who is in darkness.
