THIS LITTLE TASK

From the September 1905 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Father, this little task that I must do,
I ask of Thee to show me just the way
That Thou wouldst have it done and, Father, too,
I ask of Thee to teach me patiently
The law of love to honor and obey;
O may my hands be swift to serve, may I
Praise Thee in song, and learn to watch and pray.

. . . .

Father, this little task, teach me to try
To do it nobly as some greater thing;
Teach me to do it quickly, lovingly,
Rejoicing in my toil, and may I bring
The finished work to Thee and lay it down
Meekly, —a worthy jewel for Love's crown
Of immortality.
