From the February 1908 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is now a little over four years since I first heard of Christian Science. At that time I was in a deplorable moral state. Drinking, with its attendant vices, played a very large part in my life. My wife was at this time practically an invalid, as the result of two surgical operations. Our home life was not a happy one, as our pleasures lay so far apart, and in fact I am certain that had it not been for Christian Science my wife and I would not be living together now. Just at this time, however, my wife was healed in Christian Science of all her ailments, for which she had been treated without avail for five years by at least ten medical men. I then began to inquire into what had healed her, and from that day to this our joy in life has grown greater and greater.

Previous to this my interest in matters religious had been very small, but one by one my bad habits began to drop away, and in place of them came an intense desire to know God aright, until now my daily prayer is, "Purify me, O God." During these four years Christian Science has met our every need. Our baby, eighteen months old, was dreadfully burned soon after we came into Science, but even with my wife's slight understanding of the truth all pain was instantly overcome, and in spite of the fact that every one predicted the child would be marked for life, in two weeks there was not a scar left.

My joy to-day is great in being able to tell this good news to others, and my gratitude to God for our unselfish Leader is unbounded. Never do I have a trial but the thought of what she has overcome strengthens me to go forward and do likewise. To love God supremely, and my fellow-man as myself, is now my earnest desire.
