From the December 1909 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It has been a cherished wish that an expression of my gratitude for Christian Science might reach many more than those who have been within sound of my voice, although I am deeply sensible that neither tongue nor pen, can adequately express my thankfulness for the benefits received from Science. During my girlhood and the earlier years of my married life I knew nothing of Christian Science as taught by Mrs. Eddy. I ever had, however, a strong underlying faith in the promises of the Scriptures. I most sincerely felt that if rightly interpreted they would mean everything they stood for. I now know that it was in consequence of a lack of understanding of the inspired Word that I was a victim of much suffering from difficulties which baffled the skill of many eminent physicians, and I finally became convinced that I would be far better off to discontinue experimental treatment.

About this time I was visiting in the East, and my attention was called to Christian Science by one of Mrs. Eddy's students. I endeavored to listen respectfully to her expressions, thinking she was somewhat overzealous in her love for this "new cult." The seed was, however, sown, and was taking root, although I thought no more about the subject till after my return to my home in Minneapolis, when the condition of my health was so distressing and so alarming that it became a serious question which way to turn. I was then led to call upon an acquaintance who had just returned from a long visit in Chicago. She had previously been afflicted with a severe malady, but I found, to my surprise and great delight, that she had been transformed into a perfectly healthy, happy-looking woman. She told me she had recovered her health through Christian Science, that through her love for the Science she had become a student and a practitioner, and that her work in healing had been crowned with success. At once there flashed across my consciousness the truth, and the unspoken thought that this was the healing power taught in the Bible; that Mrs. Eddy had rediscovered it: that it would make men free! I' immediately, and most humbly, asked this Scientist to take my case. The healing was instantaneous, without doubt, for from that moment I never had a return of the old trouble.

Twenty years have elapsed, and I still remain well, strong, and active. No medicine or material treatment have I received. Not only in illness has Christian Science come to my aid, but in grief, in perplexity, and in threatened disaster. Divine Love has met and still meets my every need, by the reading of the Bible and the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, or through the help of a practitioner. Christian Science as taught by Mrs. Eddy has brought light and peace and joy, with confidence and hope not only to me. but to many, many others in whom I am interested. How can any one disregard this Science, which is demonstrable and purely scientific?
