Testimonies of Healing

About three years ago a dear friend called on me and...

From the October 1911 issue of The Christian Science Journal

About three years ago a dear friend called on me and related her healing through Christian Science of appendicitis, although the physicians had told her that nothing but an operation would give relief and restore health. I then knew absolutely nothing of Christian Science, but had been in very poor health for a number of years, suffering from and being at that time treated for what two reliable physicians had diagnosed as an abnormal growth. After three months' treatment under the care of one physician, he informed me that an operation was absolutely necessary, assuring me at the same time that it would not be a capital one.

I consented to have it done, but for quite a while after I felt poorly and was subject to severe attacks of fever and hemorrhages, and it was then the same physician told me I would have to submit to a capital operation as soon as I had gained sufficient strength to stand the ordeal, if I ever intended to get well. This edifying bit of news was administered while I was suffering from a bad attack, and by no means improved my condition. In the mean time this physician removed to San Francisco, and I, still feeling very poorly, consulted another reputable doctor, who after a careful examination diagnosed my case similarly. He treated me very kindly, and said I could not survive a capital operation in my enfeebled condition, but advised me to try certain treatments under his care. I followed his advice and kept up the treatments faithfully for a year; my general condition improved somewhat, but the growth was not reduced.

At this stage my friend called and related her experience in Christian Science. I became interested at once, read Science and Health, and took several treatments from a practitioner, and now, thanks to God, and to Mrs. Eddy, I feel perfectly well and am healed. In order to be able to verify this statement in good faith. I underwent an examination recently by the same physician who treated me for the year before I came into Science. His verdict was that there was no sign of a growth left. I also wish to state that I have not used any drugs whatever since I took up Christian Science. I believe it my duty to give this testimony, which can be verified in every instance, and also to express my sincere thanks for what Christian Science has done for me, hoping that it may encourage and benefit some sufferer who stands at the brink of despair, and may show the way to overcome fear as well as disease.
