It is three years since I turned to Christian Science for physical healing, which had been sought through materia medica until one physician admitted it could do nothing for me, and that it was useless for me to employ this agency any longer. I left my place of business one day about noon, as I was not feeling well, and upon reaching home, or shortly thereafter, had an attack which the doctor who was hurriedly summoned pronounced heart failure. I was given two hypodermic injections and then told I was all right again, that in all probability I would not need the physician's services any more; but on the following day, at about the same time, I was seized with a similar attack, and the program of the day before was repeated, only this time the doctor advised me to lie down and keep quiet. I had been losing weight rapidly for the past month, during which time I had been under medical treatment for enlargement of the liver, intestinal indigestion, and rheumatism. Though physicians did all in their power for me, I grew worse day after day, until it seemed there was no hope.
One night my wife told a neighbor that I was not expected to live till morning, but at this point I asked some one to call a Christian Science practitioner, although I knew nothing of Christian Science except that it claimed to heal the sick. I turned to it only as a last resort, and found it to be the "pearl of great price." Although my healing was slow, I could see a little gain each day, and began to put on flesh. Now I weigh more than before my illness.
I am enjoying good health, and can say with Jacob, "Surely the Lord is in this place; and I knew it not." It is a great pleasure for me to point others who may be in need of help to the same blessed fountain which sendeth not forth sweet waters and bitter, but sweet only.—Winchester, Ky.
