PROGRESS OF CHRISTIAN SCIENCE

From the September 1916 issue of The Christian Science Journal

AS early as 1887 Christian Science work was started in Buffalo, N. Y., meetings being held in the homes of interested parties. In August, 1888, the church was organized, and the following month a hall in which to hold services was secured in the Music Hall Building. In May, 1890, the organization moved to Chapter House in Johnson Park. Nov. 21, 1891, the West Side Presbyterian Church, at the corner of Jersey Street and Prospect Avenue, was purchased at a cost of fifteen thousand three hundred dollars.

The movement steadily progressed, and on Jan. 25, 1897, the then clerk of the church addressed a letter to Mrs. Eddy at Concord, N. H., regarding the progress of the work in Buffalo. This communication from the church so pleased our dear Leader that under date of Jan. 30, 1897, she wrote to the editors of the Journal as follows:—

The following letter from the clerk of First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Buffalo, N. Y., has afforded me such sweet satisfaction that without permission I venture to forward it for publication in your Journal.
