Before divine Truth was known to me I was always ready to pass a critical remark, oftentimes a stinging one, about those who were trying to keep the commandments of God. I am deeply remorseful for those remarks which my ignorance in things religious caused me to make. It was not my mother's fault that I lacked religious training, but I did not, or could not, understand the lessons which she tried to teach me. Now, when my day's work is done, I am grateful for the privilege of going over the Lesson-Sermon or reading some article in the Christian Science literature.
I am also grateful to the kind friends who helped me on the way to an understanding of divine Love, Truth, and Life. I was practically under the care of two physicians, and had an appointment with them at a hospital, when I met, a friend who talked to me so long regarding Christian Science that it was too late for me to keep my engagement with the physicians. I therefore returned home, and in company with a neighbor went to see a Christian Science practitioner. That was the day of my reformation.
So-called heart trouble, catarrh, hemorrhoids, and many other ailments have been overcome through Christian Science. For over thirty years I had been a victim of the tobacco and liquor habits, and had tried many material remedies, but to no avail. Many a good position had been lost on account of my taste for liquor, but I am thankful to God for delivering me from bondage to these habits.
