When Christian Science was brought to me over five years ago I was healed of a severe stomach disorder; I could not drink even water, the trouble had become so acute. But after my healing I had no faith in Christian Science, so did not even thank the practitioner for her help.
Three years later a growth appeared on my daughter's eyelid. Like doubting Thomas, with no faith of my own, I decided to try Christian Science to save the girl from having a scar on her face, if possible. In one week the growth entirely disappeared, but even then I thought the healing was due to hypnotism.
Finally the real test came. I was awakened one morning by moans from my daughter, and found her with face paralyzed and her whole head so distorted she was not recognizable. I was so frightened that I opened Science and Health and just kept repeating the "scientific statement of being" (Science and Health, p. 468) . She stopped groaning, and although her face remained distorted she got up and thoroughly renovated our apartments, suffering no pain at all. Next day she was back at work, straight as ever, with not even a vestige of twisting or any pain. She has been a true Christian Scientist ever since. As for me, this demonstration has given me another view of life entirely. I now know God is Love, whereas before, like priest and rabbi, I thought Him "a mighty potentate, who loves and hates" (Science and Health, p. 42).
