In May, 1905, I heard the words Christian Science for the first time. They made such an impression that I began to make inquiry about this teaching, and a friend told me that it was a religion by which the sick are healed; but neither of us knew about the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. I was so anxious to learn something about Christian Science, that I can see how "desire is prayer," as we read on page 1 of Science and Health, for in less than a month I met a young man who had been healed of Bright's disease through the power of Truth, and who loaned me his copy of "Unity of Good" by Mrs. Eddy, which I read through that evening.
Five months later we moved to another city. One day when walking up the main street I saw the sign "Christian Science Reading Room" and went in. The lady in attendance told me some things which seemed very wonderful, and I bought a copy of "Unity of Good" that day, purchasing the text-book a month later. I said to a friend that if Christian Science heals the sick, and since "God is no respecter of persons," every condition could be overcome; so I look off my glasses, which had been worn to relieve neuralgic headache that had troubled me for twenty years, and they have never been resumed, for my sight became perfect. The headaches disappeared, with many other troubles. Science and Health has been my physician, and the Bible my daily study.
I am thankful that I can read the Scriptures with understanding, and I know if we search them faithfully we will find the "pearl of great price." I am very grateful for the help I have received and have been able to give to others, also for our literature.—Madison, N. J.
