It is with deep sense of thankfulness to God for all His loving-kindnesses that I give this testimony of healing. When riding my bicycle in a park, I met with a mishap. Kind hands came to my assistance, and while in an unconscious condition I was conveyed to an infirmary a short distance away. A telegram was sent to my home, and soon afterward my sister and a friend arrived. The doctor informed them of the nature of the accident and the consequences.—concussion, a scalp wound, and a broken collar-bone,—and that I might not recover consciousness.
My sister and the friend with her were both Christian Science students, so from the moment of receiving the telegram they worked quietly and persistently to realize the truth, and before leaving home my sister sent a message to a Christian Science practitioner asking for immediate help. Therefore when they arrived at my bedside they were not at all surprised that I should open my eyes and greet them both by their names. I was also able to talk with them and tell them that I had been repeating the "scientific statement of being" (Science and Health, p. 468).
Contrary to the expectation of doctors and nurses, there was no delirium at any time and my temperature remained normal. The scalp wound was healed in three days, and the hair, which had to be cut away, has now grown to nearly the ordinary length. The collar-bone was set and bandaged, but the nurse complained that I had torn off the bandages and said the bone must be reset. The arm was, however, merely put into a sling, and the healing is perfect.
