A sense of deep gratitude compels me to tell of some of the wonderful blessings we have received since Christian Science came to our home. It is nine years since I first had treatment, at a time when joy, hope, and life itself had almost failed me. During these years we have never used drugs in our family, nor material remedies of any kind, but have relied on the healing power of God, and never once has it failed to meet our need. For five years before I knew of this truth I was constantly under the care of doctors. I suffered from catarrh of the stomach, liver, and bowels in an advanced stage, abnormal heart action, distressing headaches due it was said to a structural defect of the eyes, and a serious internal trouble.
When it seemed that all hope was gone and the doctors could do nothing for me, except give tablets to deaden the pain, until I had grown addicted to the habit, my husband's sister sent me a Sentinel. The first article gave an account of the healing by Jesus of Peter's wife's mother, and it was so encouraging that I decided to try Christian Science. A practitioner was engaged, and after the first treatment I laid aside all material remedies, borrowed a copy of Science and Health, bought a Quarterly, and brought out our long unused Bible. I commenced to eat solid food and plenty of it, after dieting for months almost to the point of starvation; the bowels acted naturally, and the internal trouble vanished. After three treatments I was able to resume my neglected duties. I soon bought a copy of Science and Health and after studying it four months I laid aside my glasses. For almost two years I had been a semi-invalid, but two months after the third treatment we moved from Missouri to Washington and we all stood the trip finely. Our children are happy and healthy. They attend the Christian Science Sunday school and have learned to help themselves when discord presents itself.
Last summer my son was healed of boils on his face, head, and hands, through reading and one treatment from a practitioner. His face was dreadfully swollen from a large boil inside his mouth, but the next day he returned to work in a logging camp. My youngest child was stung by hornets, but the pain was instantly overcome. These are only a few of the healings we have had since coming into Christian Science, and I wish to express my gratitude to all who have helped us. Whooping cough, itch, bladder weakness, pinkeye, appendicitis, and other ills have also been overcome. When I look back on my life as it was without Christian Science and compare it to the present, my heart goes out in gratitude and love to God and to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for this truth which has brought only good into our lives. It has healed us physically, morally, mentally, and has helped us in every way.
