Testimonies of Healing

I am not a Christian Scientist but...

From the January 1921 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am not a Christian Scientist but am thankful for the help I have received through Christian Science, and have become desirous of knowing more of this wonderful truth.

I am employed in a shipyard. Recently I had an accident which made me realize the power of a silent declaration of the truth as taught in Christian Science. My hand was badly hurt, two fingers were fractured, the bone was splintered in one, and the end of one finger was nearly cut off, causing me great pain. When I was first taken to the dispensary the doctor thought one finger would have to be amputated, but after washing and dressing my hand, he said I had a very bad hand but could not say what would have to be done until the next day. He sent me home, saying I would not be able to go to work for a long time and to come to his office the next day.

My mother has a dear friend who is a Christian Scientist and having been helped from time to time herself, asked me if I would like to have treatment. I said I surely would if I could be relieved. The practitioner was called, and immediate help was given. I read for a while, and then fell asleep. When I awakened the pain was nearly gone and I had no sense of fear. The next day I called at the doctor's office to have the hand examined and dressed. The doctor and nurse were very much surprised on seeing the improved condition. There was no pain and not a particle of fever or inflammation in it. He bandaged the hand again and said he would not disturb it, as it was wonderful how well it was doing. I was told to come the next day, which I did, and an X-ray picture was taken which showed the bones to be all perfectly set and knitting most wonderfully. This was all accomplished without any material assistance excepting the bathing and bandaging of the hand. The doctors and nurses all remarked that they never saw anything like it in all their experience, and I want to say they have a great deal of experience of the kind in a shipyard with hundreds of workmen. I am grateful and thankful to say that I lost no time from my work. My hand was only in a bandage for three weeks and I felt no inconvenience whatever in doing my work.
