Evidences are multiplying that many assailants of Christian Science and traducers of Mrs. Eddy are changing their tactics. Instead of making open assaults through the public press, they are resorting to covert and serpentine attacks by means of booklets, pamphlets, and leaflets circulated more or less stealthily; also to misrepresentation in religious and parish papers and in medical journals, which persistently refuse to open their columns to correction or reply. It is not difficult to imagine that the opponents of Christian Science, like the fallen angels described in ''Paradise Lost," have met in solemn debate
"by what best way.
Whether of open war, or covert guile"
Two reasons are apparent for this resort to guerrilla warfare by our opponents: First, most of the reputable public newspapers have awakened to the folly and futility, as well as the indecorum, of attacking another's religious views; and second, even the most callous assailant of Christian Science must fail to relish being convicted in the columns of the public press of ignorance, ill-breeding, malice, or mendacity. It is not surprising, therefore, that these evildoers are resorting to more subtle and sinuous methods of attack against the spiritual idea.
