Having attended the Christian Science Sunday School and been taught by one of our lecturers, and my mother having been at one time a Reader in a Christian Science church and now a practitioner, I thought I was well grounded. When I went out into the business world, however, instead of taking my only help with me, I became estranged from the beautiful influences of Christian Science; and my troubles began.
During the war, which time I spent in this country and in France, I gave little thought to Christian Science, except, perhaps, to seek help from fear of battle rather than for the healing of my own thoughts. The help I received, however, was strong enough to land me back in this country unharmed. The first year in business after leaving the service was one of discouragement and oppression. Fear crept in, which placed my morale very low, and it became manifest in my body. Also, I had increased my smoking of cigarettes daily, which was supposed to be adding to a bad case of nerves. It became so bad I was compelled to seek the aid of a practitioner, who, after the first treatment, greatly relieved the mental strain, and lessened my smoking habit. After the second visit the desire for smoking left me so easily that I hardly noticed it; and from that day to this, nearly two years, I have had no further desire to use tobacco in any form. Through the loving care of the practitioner, my whole mental attitude changed; and this was expressed in my physical condition almost instantly. I learned to love more, which so helped me mentally that I lost a quick temper; and it gave me more patience, which I have applied to business with splendid results. Through the help I have received and the daily study of Christian Science, I am also meeting a claim of lack; and I am indeed grateful for the opportunity to subscribe my name in further testimony of the wonderful healing qualities of Christian Science, as given to us by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy.—Chicago, Ill.
