I had a nervous breakdown and suffered much pain from what the physicians called neuritis and sciatic rheumatism. For nine months I could not walk. I tried seven physicians, also osteopathy, chiropractic treatments, four different kinds of baths, and home remedies. One physician, who lived next door to my home, came in two or three times a day, but finally said he could do nothing for me.
After all this suffering and loss of time and money, I turned to Christian Science for help, and was taken to the home of a practitioner. I went into her home very much stooped, but walked out erect. My family had often expressed a fear that I should never be straight again. After five treatments I went to work; and I have been active ever since. While being treated for this trouble I was also healed of a bad disposition. Six years before this I had lent a friend a large sum of money, which was lost in business. I was filled with irritation, resentment, anger; and worry resulted. This was all corrected when I saw my mental condition was so unlike God, good, and man in His image and likeness.
During the World War I was sometimes doing two men's work; and one day, while working on a large printing press trying to adjust it, my left hand was caught in the press and crushed. It took three men to release my hand. This occurred at the lunch hour. The hand began to swell, and was very painful. I called the same practitioner for treatment, and expressed a desire to continue my work because we were very busy and short of help. I was told that it was right for me to be active, and that I could continue my work. The pain was overcome in a short time, and I did not lose a minute. In one week my hand was completely healed. After this my thumb was crushed three times in a small press, and with the understanding and application of Christian Science I was able to make the demonstration for myself. This thumb is as perfect as the other.
