Thirteen years ago I attended my first lecture on Christian Science. I went there only through a sense of courtesy and with a desire to oblige a friend, toward whom I shall always have a deep sense of gratitude; but I left the lecture with an honest desire to know more of the wonderful truth which Jesus said would make us free. The following week I attended a Wednesday evening testimony meeting, after which I was healed of an incessant desire to smoke; and since that day there has been no return of this.
Following this convincing proof of the healing efficacy of Christian Science, kidney trouble of seven years' standing was entirely overcome in one week. Later a condition presented itself which was diagnosed by a physician as softening of the heel bones. Again I turned to Christian Science for help; and while this healing was not rapid, the condition was completely overcome after three months of earnest study and application of the truth as taught in Christian Science, which indeed makes us free.
Obviously any one would be grateful for physical healings such as I have experienced; but what I am most grateful for is the understanding—even though in small degree—that through a conscientious effort and consistent study of this truth every form of error can be overcome. As our revered Leader has so aptly written in "Rudimental Divine Science" (p. 2): "Healing physical sickness is the smallest part of Christian Science. It is only the bugle-call to thought and action, in the higher range of infinite goodness."— St. Louis, Mo.
