Physical healing by spiritual means, received through the ministrations of a Christian Science practitioner, created a desire to know of the method in which the healing was accomplished. I was told the Bible contained the recipe for healing all disease and discord, but that it must be spiritually interpreted. Before my healings in Christian Science I had been an infidel for almost twenty years, and was more familiar with Darwin, Ingersoll, and similar writers than with Isaiah, Paul, and John. When told that the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, contained the statement of true metaphysical healing, I commenced its study. I am so grateful for those first healings received in Christian Science; for they proved conclusively that there is a power superior to matter and mortal man. Because "in my flesh" I had seen the power of God, I had the courage to persist studying the textbook until I was healed of a dislike for the Bible; and now I know that "the Bible contains the recipe for all healing," as Mrs. Eddy says on page 406 of Science and Health.
I have the utmost respect and admiration for Mrs. Eddy's masterful use of English—clearly the result of inspiration. In pondering her statements we often see a gleam of light which formerly had escaped us. Later, when thought has become more spiritualized, a greater light of Truth dawns on our consciousness as we again contemplate the same inspired statements. Thus the revelation goes on; and on each successive ascent in the scale of being, more of the treasures Mrs. Eddy has prepared for us are unfolded. Any attempt to "simplify" her works must inevitably result in adulterating Christian Science, and circumscribing it within the narrow limits of materialistic knowledge.— Kansas City, Kans.
