I am happy to tell of the beautiful...

From the July 1923 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am happy to tell of the beautiful healing of our little son, about two years ago. I had noticed that the child was ailing, and had been failing for almost a year. Finally, his nose began to manifest a diseased condition. As I had followed nursing for a number of years before my marriage, I felt that the infection in his head was very serious, and I finally decided I would have a Christian Science practitioner treat him. The infection had become so severe that it was beginning to cause inflammation on the outside of the nose. The child was very irritable, had no appetite, and seemed dull all the time. The third day after the practitioner had started to work for him, my husband remarked that he felt the boy was healed. I felt that whatever had caused the trouble was not entirely removed, as I could still see some evidence of it, although I knew the boy was more active and seemed improved in other ways. Treatment was continued until the following Saturday night, at which time I gave him his bath. He was unusually bright, and delighted to get into the water, and asked me if he could swim in the tub as he used to do. My first thought was that he must not get his head under the water. I felt, however, that my own fear was really the difficulty, so I consented to his having a good frolic in the water, as it made me feel very happy to see that he wanted to play. I stood by the tub watching him jump down into the water; and as he raised his little head, I noticed that something was protruding from his nose. I wiped it off and found that it was a foreign mass of some kind. His eyes were so bright, and his first words were, "Oh, I can breathe so good." My husband came in and found me in tears of joy. I felt that I, too, could breathe freely again.

Out of curiosity I had the specimen examined by a doctor. He found that it was a thorny weed that the child must have pushed into his nose; and on account of the little, fine thorns it had become imbedded, and infection seemed to result. The doctor said it was remarkable how we had been able to get it out without the use of instruments to dilate his nostrils; but we knew so well that, as Mrs. Eddy says in ''Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p.463), ''A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive." The doctor also said it was wonderful the child had lived a year with such a condition in his head; but I felt that our faith had helped us.

I am indeed grateful to God for this healing, and for all that Christian Science has done for us; also to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, and to the practitioner who has taught us so many beautiful lessons.—
