It is with love and gratitude that I express my thankfulness for Christian Science, which came to me twenty-four and to my husband twenty-five years ago, at times of great need. I am thankful for class instruction, and for the countless healings witnessed in our home, two of which I will mention here.
One of my daughters was born with what is commonly known as club feet, and began walking on the sides of her feet. A Christian Science practitioner worked on the case. It was not a quick healing, but gradually the child began to walk more naturally. As she grew older, she was quite determined to use her feet as other children did,—to run, skip, and jump in spite of all difficulties. It was thought roller skating would be impossible for her; but she soon proved that to be a mistake. In a short time she was pronounced the best skater on the hill. Later, she used ice skates, with equal success and enjoyment. At the age of twelve every vestige of the error had entirely disappeared. That was ten years ago. Now, thanks to Christian Science, she is a strong, healthy young woman.
In the fall of 1910, my elder daughter, then aged twelve years, met with an accident. Upon leaving the schoolroom to go to another part of the building, she started downstairs. Turning at a sharp landing, and hastily attempting to recover a pencil which she had dropped, she reached quite beyond her intent, lost her balance, and fell fifteen feet to the floor below. The physician who was summoned reached the school house before I did, and pronounced the injury concussion of the brain. He said, "I am glad they are Christian Scientists; I do not want the case." After my arrival, she recovered consciousness sufficiently to ask for Christian Science treatment, which was given by a Scientist who was present at the time; and she was enabled to walk to the automobile which was called to take us home.
