"BE STILL, AND KNOW"

From the January 1924 issue of The Christian Science Journal

O fearful one, why dost thou fear? Is ill
From Him who giveth good—the Father's will?
Or hast thou other gods that evil bring?
Know God aright; then lift thy voice and sing!

For God is Love, and can but good bestow;
Thou, too, His gift of joy and peace shall know.
The ills of mortal sense Love never knew;
And evil, then, is but a dream—untrue.

Then God is Mind; and all that He hath made
Are thoughts of His, within that Mind displayed:
His pure expression, perfect works are they,
Apart from erring sense and finite clay.

And God is Life—thy Life, and mine, and all.
Can man, then, cease to be, or can he fall?
While God exists, man too exists, above
Earth's fleeting phantoms, safe in arms of Love.

Since God is Truth, He knows not error's claim;
Nor doth His child, who bears His holy name.
Awaken from the Adam-dream! Behold
The Christ-man, blest e'er Abraham of old!

So, when the waves of error toss and roar,
To thy calm closet go, and shut the door;
Through holier vision see Love's perfect plan:
Be still, and know the truth of God and man!
