THERE is only one correct teaching of Christian Science, and that is the teaching which Mary Baker Eddy, the revered and beloved Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, gave to the world in her writings. No teaching which departs therefrom in any least particular presents Christian Science correctly; while all that is in accordance with it is of God, good, and has His sanction resting upon it. In these facts lies perfect protection for both teacher and student from either giving or receiving anything which could tempt or harm.
For the teacher, God has revealed through Mrs. Eddy the clear and definite method of class teaching in Christian Science in the chapter entitled "Recapitulation" in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," with permission to corroborate the teaching through such other references from the textbooks as divine Principle may direct. The teacher who studies earnestly and prayerfully these teachings, himself putting them into practice, cannot fail to find them unfolding with greater and greater simplicity; and the guidance of divine Mind in such unfoldment will necessarily become clearer and clearer to him.
He who thus obeys Mrs. Eddy's direct instructions will find that such obedience not only increases his own ability to demonstrate Christian Science, but it also protects him against temptation to control his students personally, as well as against any sense of personal pride or personal ability in imparting the method to his classes. It is quite impossible for any honest teacher of Christian Science to follow in the footsteps of the Leader of Christian Science and not continually divest himself of pride of human accomplishment and personal prestige, so clearly does she adhere to the dictum of the prophets, "And they shall be all taught of God."
