Full of gratitude for Christian Science, I should like to give the following testimony. Several years ago I was taken ill with an internal complaint. At that time I did not know of Christian Science. Being a government official, I was obliged to procure a doctor's certificate. This physician diagnosed the presence of albumen and saccharin. Humanly speaking, this indicated a very serious complaint. The physician ordered me to observe a strict diet, which I conscientiously did. But in spite of this, the effect was negative. I wasted away, and my strength diminished day by day. Then I heard of Christian Science.
I went at once to a lady of my acquaintance who I knew was closely connected with this teaching, and asked her to give me some literature. She very kindly placed some at my disposal. My wife and I studied these books earnestly, and attended the Sunday services and Wednesday evening testimony meetings regularly. In one of the weekly Lesson-Sermons on the subject of "Life," the following passage of Scripture occurred: "Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man." It became perfectly clear to me that food could neither harm me nor make me sick. I went at once to the kitchen, asked my wife for the diet schedule, and tore it up, saying, "I shall now eat everything that is set before me."
A month later I was obliged to go to the physician. After a careful examination, he ascertained that the saccharin and albumen had disappeared. When he saw that I had gained in weight, he was very much surprised. My strength returned rapidly, and I felt better every day. This sickness has never returned.
