"AND SHALL NOT DOUBT"

From the July 1926 issue of The Christian Science Journal

IT has been said that it is the doubts of Christian Scientists which prevent the quicker consummation of Mary Baker Eddy's hopes for the world. That these doubts spring from the seed of error's sowing cannot be questioned; for man as God knows him has no doubts.

Upon the necessity of being so grounded in Truth that the heart no longer harbors any doubt, Christ Jesus laid much emphasis. He said, "For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith." Mrs. Eddy has selected this quotation as part of the heading to the first chapter of her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." In "Miscellaneous Writings," by the same author, there is this gentle prayer (p. 115): "May God enable my students to take up the cross as I have done, and meet the pressing need of a proper preparation of heart to practise, teach, and live Christian Science!"

The desire to practice Christian Science is deeply laid in the heart of all consecrated Christian Scientists; yet, because the demonstration of this Science is still imperfect, there are in the heart doubts at least of one's ability to prove the reality and power of Truth. Somewhere we are not on God's side, but against Him, or results would be perfect.
