UTILIZING DIVINE POWER

From the July 1926 issue of The Christian Science Journal

TRUE power is divine. It is not material; neither is it human. The Psalmist declared, "God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God." Since God is omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent Spirit, His power is infinite, spiritual, ever present, ever operative. Humanity's great need at this very hour is to utilize more fully the divine power.

The human race looks upon itself as burdened and oppressed. It feels hampered by an apparent inability to remove the obstacles which interfere with health, happiness, prosperity, freedom. Yet the power necessary for the accomplishment of every beneficent result is present and available. God, the almighty One, does not withhold any good thing from His children. The very first chapter of the Bible declares that God created man in His own image and likeness, and that He gave man dominion over all the earth.

The wonderful incidents recorded in the Bible, the so-called miracles, are simply instances wherein individuals utilized the divine power in behalf of themselves or others. In the life and work of Christ Jesus we see this power most fully utilized. Jesus proved absolutely that man in God's image does have dominion over all the earth. He proved also that there is neither reality nor power in anything which is inimical to true welfare. When Jesus healed the sick, raised the dead, walked on the waves, fed the multitude, stilled the storm, he demonstrated and illustrated the dominion over limitation and discord which results inevitably from a right understanding of God.
