"A CITY OF TRUTH"

From the August 1927 issue of The Christian Science Journal

IN many of the prophetic passages of the Scriptures, Jerusalem is called the city of God; and in Zechariah we read, "And Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth." This city, Jerusalem, is therefore symbolical of the spiritualized consciousness; hence we can understand that the fundamental truth of Jesus' declaration, "Except ye ... become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven," was understood by Zechariah when he saw that "the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in the streets."

Spiritually interpreted, "boys and girls" symbolize happy, active, youthful, healthful, innocent, unselfed thoughts. Unselfed thoughts go forth freely and fearlessly, obedient to the divine Principle. Love. If those who are trying to demonstrate the Christ, Truth, could realize that all real existence is wholly the manifestation or expression of Life, Truth, Love, they would be fulfilling the prophetic vision of Zechariah, finding that their real existence is, right here and now, a state of happiness, freedom, and prosperity, and that their "city," or consciousness, is filled with happy, youthful, healthful thoughts, joyously expressing themselves according to the law of harmony.

Our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 191), "The human thought must free itself from self-imposed materiality and bondage." Free, joyous, untrammeled thoughts are angels from God, divine Mind. Therefore, if we understand Truth more than we believe in error, we shall obediently express these beautiful ideas, and through the acceptance of God's allness shall be enabled to rise out of the illusions of our own self-imposed thoughts of sorrow, sin, pain, or loss.
