WEARY of the cares of the world, heavy-laden with its burdens, sorrowing, sinful, sick humanity, after having exhausted all its socalled material resources, is often driven, literally driven, to God for help. It is pathetic to witness mankind frequently so mesmerized by material sense as apparently to be oblivious to the wealth of spiritual revelation that is available to-day to all with the discernment to recognize it. For we are living in an age which has been greatly blessed spiritually. Christian Science is here with its divine revelation, the fullest revelation of spiritual Being ever vouchsafed to the human race, and accentuating within itself all that Hebrew prophet and seer, all that Christ Jesus himself revealed to mankind.
Long before Christian Science was given to the world by Mrs. Eddy, even in days far anterior to the Christian era, men turned to God for refuge and restoration. The twenty-third psalm is an outpouring of sublimest faith in the graciousness of God. "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want," it begins. "He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul." Wonderful words of trust and confidence in the Most High; but far more wonderful when illumined by the spiritual understanding which Christian Science imparts! Substitute for "Lord," in the psalm, "Divine Love," as Mrs. Eddy does on page 578 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and a flood of meaning pours from it. Then we recognize divine Love as our shepherd, supplying all our needs, leading us into happiness and peace, and restoring our soul (spiritual sense).
That this divine shepherding, protecting, leading, restoring has taken place, and is still taking place, there can be no doubt, for numerous Biblical characters have witnessed to the fact, and a great multitude can testify of it to-day. There are many Christian Scientists now living useful lives in peace and comfort, who have been restored to health, lifted above sorrow and rescued from want, solely through the understanding of God as Love, which Christian Science has given them. The majority had probably exhausted all the so-called material aids at their disposal before even deigning to look into Christian Science. But from the moment they began through its teaching to understand God as Love, and to perceive that the fact logically excludes all unlike Love as possessing true or real being, they began to improve in every direction—began, in other words, to be restored.
