This testimony is written to express my gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me in the past fourteen years. Christian Science heals, and can heal quickly! My first healing was of gallstones, and was instantaneous. The decision had been reached by the physician—after one of many attacks, which had resulted in convulsions—that an operation was necessary. A friend, hearing of my trouble and knowing my dread of a hospital, suggested Christian Science, assuring me it would heal. I said I would try anything rather than submit to an operation. The healing resulted on the first visit to the practitioner, and has been permanent.
One is naturally glad to be well; and so church services were attended to learn more of this truth. Christian Science was difficult for me to understand, and the textbook. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, seemed too deep. Gradually, therefore, church services and reading were dropped. Six months after my first healing a fall occasioned a broken leg. I had no thought of what Christian Science could do, and a surgeon was called and the leg set. Again, however, Science was brought to me, nothing more being done by the surgeon. Christian Science treatment was begun, and in five weeks' time I was back at work on the stage.
During this healing a copy of Mrs. Eddy's "Miscellaneous Writings" was read, and so much spiritual enlightenment came to me that an earnest study of Christian Science was begun and constant attendance at church became a joy. Since that time I have had many proofs of God's care. Nearly all my healings have occurred instantaneously, or within a few hours. I have been freed in this way from influenza, stoppage of the bowels, sprains, a scalded foot, and acid burns on the leg; and I cannot be too grateful. In the case of the acid burns, the trouble was met in about two hours sufficiently to enable me to retire; and a peaceful night's rest ensued.
