I have had many beautiful proofs of the healing power of Christian Science. Constipation, ulcerated teeth, neuralgia, weak eyes which caused daily headaches, and ptomaine poisoning are some of the errors which have been destroyed. A false sense of pleasure has been corrected also, and the truth that joy is not to be found apart from God is being proved daily.
Once a cold seemed not to yield after several treatments, so I determined to search my thought to find what had caused the difficulty. I found that on the night before it appeared I had indulged in criticism of several people; so I took our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and sought to undo the errors of self-righteousness and false criticism. The lines on page 568, "A louder song, sweeter than has ever before reached high heaven, now rises clearer and nearer to the great heart of Christ; for the accuser is not there," brought a clear sense that there is no condemnation in divine Love; and then the cold disappeared.
While I was working on another problem it came to me to think of how pictures had been discovered in Italy which had been painted over old masterpieces, and that these inferior paintings had deluded the public until someone with sufficient understanding and skill detected the original picture underneath and removed the surface painting; after which the masterpiece was revealed to a grateful world. It was similar with the erroneous belief confronting me. A false picture had been accepted until Christian Science uncovered and revealed the true concept of each individual concerned in the problem, and then it was realized that the wrong manifestation never had really happened. God's perfect ideas were under His spiritual law, which had been in operation all the time. However many people had accepted the false picture, it never was genuine, and could no longer display itself. With this realization the fear lifted like a cloud, and I was free.
