It is five years since I first read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, but it is only during the past three years that I have kept to Christian Science teaching alone. Since the taking of this step my advance has been marked, and I am deeply grateful for the increased understanding and the new life that have opened up for me. Some of us are apt to think Christian Science difficult, but the needed help is always found therein. Mrs. Eddy says (Science and Health, p. 422), "Continue to read, and the book will become the physician." I have found that one only needs to persevere to find this to be so.
When in the depths of despair and feeling on the verge of a nervous breakdown, I decided to write to a Christian Science practitioner for help, as I was quite unable to go on any longer. I remember with gratitude the loving response to my call, with only the request that I should give up other literature and put my trust entirely in God, instead of dividing my faith between matter and Spirit. The relief at once experienced from dreadful nights was proof to me that help was at hand. My healing was slow, and at times I seemed to hang on only by a thread, but I learned that if we will only cling to the good, however dimly, relief must come. I do thank God for the health and happiness that are mine. More than all am I grateful for the spiritual understanding which Christian Science gives, enabling us to trust in God at all times and under all circumstances. I have had help for several physical troubles, thus proving that Christian Science is the panacea for every ill, physical and moral. It gives one a feeling of confidence and trust in God surpassing all else. The misery and morbidness of the past seem but a dream, and always one knows that God is indeed at hand, "our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."—Barraba, New South Wales, Australia.
