I desire that this testimony should express in some degree my unceasing gratitude for the coming of Christian Science into my life. Shortly after I grew up, an experience occurred which I believed to be a healing through prayer, when one of my family was healed from a condition the doctor had pronounced hopeless; and this opened the way for me to accept without doubt or argument the teaching of Christian Science.
I took up this study to help my mother, who was to undergo a severe operation; and a week or so later I witnessed, through the power of Christian Science, a wonderful healing. My mother, lying in a London nursing home and by the surgeon and doctor declared to be dying, was at my request given over to my care. Absent treatment from a Christian Science practitioner having already been asked for, my mother and I were left completely alone, with orders not to be disturbed. Within two hours and a half my mother was quite well, laughing and chatting. The surgeon, during a busy day of operations, telephoned the nursing home three times to make sure the patient was still alive, and afterwards thanked me for my mother's life and said, "You know it is a resurrection."
This took place within three weeks of my first talk with a Christian Science practitioner; and three months later, through the earnest study of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and the little understanding I had gained of this great truth, I was healed of an internal trouble from which I had suffered since childhood. In these nine years I have had no return of the difficulty. Instantaneous healings which I have experienced include the healing of a strained back, a bunion, and a growth under the foot.
