MANY have at some time been faced with the questions: Why should I die? Why should a useful life cease? How comforting is the Bible teaching that God does not desire one to die! In Ezekiel we read, "I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord God;" and in Proverbs we are told, "In the way of righteousness is life; and in the pathway thereof there is no death." Death is unreal, the seeming result of a departure in belief from God's government. Then the question remains, If one brings all his thinking into accord with God's law, shall he not gain life eternal?
Since the time of Christ Jesus there has been nothing for which the world should be more grateful than Christian Science, which explains the Bible, showing how we may gain freedom from all sin, from every form of sickness, even when called incurable, and even from death itself. It makes plain and practical the distinction between the real man, created in God's image, and so-called mortal man, subject to discordant experiences. Great numbers to-day can testify that the understanding gained through Christian Science has saved them from phases of evil from which they formerly saw no escape; or it has healed them of disease that had been pronounced fatal, so rescuing them from the decree of death which had been passed upon them. So it is prolonging their life and joy, and giving them a sense of heaven on earth. Such was the experience of the writer when he was restored from seemingly hopeless conditions through the understanding of Christian Science.
What is the healing power which is again made plain to men? It is the knowledge of man as God made him: the understanding of the life which proceeds from God; of man, who in his real being is sinless, perfect, having no element or quality underived from God. Through growth in recognizing the true nature of God and of man, one escapes from false, enslaving material beliefs into the wonderful freedom which comes through the knowledge of true selfhood derived from God.
