Testimonies of Healing

Among the many blessings derived...

From the September 1932 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Among the many blessings derived from the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy for which I wish to express my gratitude is my speedy recovery from a compound fracture of the hip. At the time I was a long distance from home, and having no one with me who knew of Christian Science I was taken to a hospital. There I was given to understand that, according to the surgeon's verdict, the bone could not knit under nine months, crutches would have to be used even then for some time, and one leg might be much shorter than the other. But I got in touch with a Christian Science practitioner at home the following day, and about four days later, at my request, another X-ray was taken and the bone found to be knitted. But I was not allowed to be taken out of the cast, which caused me some suffering, and its enforced wearing gave rise to another difficulty which had to be overcome; but by that time I was walking again, six months earlier than predicted, without crutches—and both limbs were perfectly even.

At the moment of the accident the pain seemed very severe, but Mrs. Eddy's words in Science and Health (p. 397) came to me immediately: "Declare that you are not hurt and understand the reason why." I then declared the presence and power of divine Love. The pain ceased, and from that time forward I had no further suffering from the break itself.

This and other similar experiences give proof that the divine promise, "It shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear," is always being fulfilled. Just here I wish to say what a big debt we owe the practitioners who give so willingly and liberally of their time and express so much unselfed love in their work. But no mere words can adequately express what we owe to Mrs. Eddy for opening out to us the truth of being; for one could go on indefinitely finding cause for gratitude to our Father-Mother God, who in His great mercy revealed to us His divine laws through her. Striving to live this truth is the only proof we can give that we feel the gratitude we so willingly express. "Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer."—
