When Christian Science was presented to me about twenty-four years ago, it found me a mental and physical wreck as a result of epileptic fits in the worst form, which I had as often as three times in one day. After trying some of the best specialists of the United States and many kinds of treatment, but getting worse all the time, I asked one of the best doctors in this locality if he would tell me the truth if I asked him a serious question, and he said, "Yes." I asked him if epilepsy could be cured. He said that if one had it as a child he might outgrow it, but if it came on after a person was grown it never could be cured; that the spells could be stopped for perhaps as long as a year, but they would come on again. He then asked me if I had them, and when I told him my condition he said that a case like mine had never been known to be healed through the medical profession.
It was shortly after this that a friend told me about Christian Science, stating that no matter what seemed to be the trouble it could be healed, and she gave me "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy to read. I asked for treatment from a Christian Science practitioner, and she worked faithfully for me for some time; but I did not seem to get any better, so she told me that I should have to work it out myself. From then on I studied in earnest, and great joy came to me when the Bible and Science and Health unfolded the true relation between God and man. I was completely healed. It is now over twenty-one years since I had my last attack.
I was a slave to the tobacco habit for over twenty-nine years, but one morning I realized clearly that I was healed of this habit; and I was, for I have never had the least desire for tobacco since.
