I am grateful for all that Christian Science has done for me. I can state here only a few of all the blessings which I have had in the last fortyfive years or more.
When Christian Science was first mentioned to me I thought, like many others, that it could not help me, but, being in a very miserable condition, I was more than ready to give it a trial. I had tried hard to do things through will-power, and to rid myself of sinful habits, but it all seemed of no avail. I had catarrh of the stomach and of the nasal organs, and was also troubled with dyspepsia and lumbago when this blessed truth was presented to me. I was connected with the brewing business, and in that way I had formed the liquor and gambling habits. I knew that if I continued I would be either in my grave or in the penitentiary. I tried hard to be a better man and a better husband, but it seemed that when I was under the influence of these bad habits I was abusive to my wife and was in fact quite useless. When Christian Science was presented to me and I had my first treatment, I wanted to know all about it. I might say that my first treatment healed me instantaneously of the difficulties mentioned. I was also cured of biting my finger nails. One of the things for which I am most grateful is the healing of continuous headaches; for over fifteen years there was not a day that I was not troubled with them.
About six years ago I was overcome with a very serious ailment which was known by the doctors as a disease of the prostate gland. I seemed to be suffering as much as one could suffer. While I was in this condition one of my sons sent for a doctor, who advised me to go to the hospital that day for an immediate operation. I told him that I was interested in Christian Science and that I did not wish to go to the hospital. I continued this way for another week. Finally another son called up one of the leading physicians and against my wishes I was taken to the hospital, where I remained for three months undergoing three operations. Five doctors took care of me, and they held out no hope. They cut off all telephone communications and would not allow anyone to see me. Through it all I clung to the truth. After I came out of my experience, one of the doctors told the nurse and me that Christian Science had saved my life.
